FIENGOLD'S FOLLY ABANDONED BY HIS PARTY

The attempt by Senator Russ Fiengold, (D WI), to censure the President is not to popular within his own party. Democrats on the hill are running away from this debacle as fast as their liberal feet can take them! Fiengold himself ran from the Senate floor on Monday when he presented the measure refusing to debate the measure with Senator Arlen Spector. Several prominent Democrats including Chuck Schumer, John Kerry and the Hildabeast, (Hillary, "Rotten," Clinton), actually went out of their way to avoid the press over the Fiengold measure when they entered the capitol this morning. Kerry nearly ran into someone who was being scanned at a security post as he dodged the press. Hillary hid behind a fellow representative. Many Democrats ducked out of the Capitol secretly later in the day once again to avoid the press. Schumer who is the Democrats camera boy quickly commented that he did not know enough about the measure to make comment, this despite the fact that he was in the Senate chambers when Fiengold presented the measure Monday. In my previous post concerning the Fiengold measure it was mentioned that the Constitution,( which is the basis on which Fiengold stated his measure), does not have a provision to censure a President only House and Senate members and his hypocrisy over his own joint bill with John McCain and campaign finance which tramples the first amendment provision of free speech. Fiengold's hypocrisy does not end there. It turns out that he is NOT one of the members of the Senate or the House who was briefed on the NSA program therefore he does not have all of the details of the program nor was he among those briefed on the legal precedence for the program. Because of his fellow Democrats lack of support for his censure measure Fiengold accused the left of, "cowering, " when the President's numbers are so low. Senator your fellow libs are not cowering to the President. Even they recognize a stupid move when they see it. Although this ridiculous measure has no chance of passage by the Senate and most likely will progress no further than it has it does prove that the Democrats are gearing up the 2006 election campaign to run against the President instead of running on the issues. Terry McCauliff mentioned in an interview yesterday that the Dems were running against a, "failed Presidency, " in 06 and 08. Hey Senator Fiengold, Terry McCauliff, and all of the rest of you on the left I have a news flash for you: THE PRESIDENT IS NOT RUNNING ON ANY BALLOT ! The people are interested in the issues and who will address them. Though the Republicans have been weak and I have several issues of disagreement with the President, at least the leadership has an agenda based on plans and not just anger and hatred toward Bush which is the ONLY agenda by the left. The Democrats truly believe that stunts like the Fiengold measure will gain the backing and trust of the people. Combine this with the low poll numbers and the left believes that those of us who support the President will do as they did in 1994 and jump ship because of our disagreements. They still do not realize that 1994 happened BECAUSE the issues were addressed and the Contract With America gave a platform that propelled the Republicans into the majority. Again I have news for you on the left, though we may disagree we still support the President and the leadership and will do so in November. Ploys like Fiengold's and the anger driven agenda by the left only polarize the voters against the left. So Democrats, keep up the great work!

I believe Feingold is right based on principle not just politics. Senate Democrats and Republicans are both weak, and Democrats are even weaker because they are in the minority. The fact that the Senate is abdicating its oversight responsibility when a majority in the Senate clearly believe the program does not comply with the law is nothing to be proud of for either party.

If Bush is not breaking the law, then why is there an effort to change the law?

We will see what happens in November. Certainly given the polls and the growing unpopularity of Bush, I see no reason for Republicans to be comfortable. I suspect the majority of American voters don't have any idea who Russ Feingold is or what censure is. The censure issue isn't going to pass - unfortunately in my opinion - but even if it did, it would not be much of an issue in November.

The rising costs (lives and money) in Iraq, the worsening budget situation, rising interest rates, health care, cuts in student loans, the failure to rebuild after Katrina, etc. will all have much more impact than censure.

BTW Ken, I don't think you are purposely doing it, but you keep inverting the "ei" in Feingold. I am not criticizing, just want you to know.

The ei is one finger ,moving faster than the other thanks. I don't think that the election in November will change the make up of the House or Senate as far as majority status. Republicans may lose a few seats in tha House and a couple in the Senate but even that may not happen because the Dems have NO substance to their platform. It is only hate and attack Bush. As far as Feingold, his censure measure has no merits. The purpose behind the law change is to eliminate the questions, not because the law does not back the NSA program but because the process is to involved and complicated which caused the legality to be questioned in the first place.

I don't mind typos- happens all the time. I just wanted to make sure you knew the spelling.

We'll see what happens in November. The current trend in the polls does not bode well for Republicans. No one is going to pay attention to a strategy - Republican or Democrat - until late August. You and I may be interested, but the overwhelming majority of the American people don't care. Right before the election people will starte paying attention. If the Democrats don't offer a strategy by early September then they may have some issues.

I agree the average Joe doesn't care about what happens in Washington, which is a shame. Even in a Presidential year most only pay attention after the conventions. It is amazing how most of the populace is oblivious to those things that effect their life. Much to concerned with more trivial things I quess. To a point you are also correct. Who ever gets the word out in the best way after the summer has a better chance of success in the election. Usually the party in the majority has an advantage over the minority, but time will tell. There is still quite a bit of political water to go under the bridge until then and we who follow will keep up the debate!

True. You are right Ken. I care to know, as do you and other readers of political blogs. The impact of Iraq and how the economy performs will have a lot to do with what happens in November. We will have to see where the country is on those issues.

The American people just get a sense about whether things are OK or not. Details are largely unimportant to the masses. It is sad, and unfortunate, but people want slogans and bullet points - sizzle over substance. That is also partially why negative campaign ads work.

Let Feingold keep going!! Heck Yeah! These Lunatic Liberals are in full attack mode but what they want more than anything is to impeach our President. It just isnt enough for them to win an election (If they do) for Senator's and crap, but they want blood because they hate that Bush won twice!! And they also think somehow they need vengence for Clinton. But Our President didnt lie to the American people. Hell he barley speaks to us let alone lies to us. (I have a problem with him not talking to us more). But I like the fact that Fiengold has thrown his party in to total chaos. Especially when it isnt even Constitutionaly possible to Censure the President.

I love how people like Marie lump all liberals into one single group and then in their very same post argue that liberals don't agree with each other. The inconsistency in her argument points to the foolishness of assuming all liberals are the same.

First it is liberals are in attack mode and want impeachment, then in the very same post she says Feingold has thrown liberals into chaos. It cannot be both.

I don't assume all Republicans are like Pat Robertson, but people like Marie want to label all liberals with names. Not only is it unproductive, but ludicrous.

Hatred toward Bush is not the ONLY agenda liberals have. For one thing they want to bring socialized medicine to the United States--it's fairer because everyone will die waiting for treatment regardless of income. Liberals also have a strong position on discrimination--they believe people of certain races should be given preferences at the expense of other races (I believe the technical term for that policy is...racism). Finally, they want to prevent such silly notions as choie, freedom and the free market from decreasing costs and improving effectiveness of education for everyone. So, it's not just Bush they are after, it's all of us. Check out
