JOHN MCCAIN BROUGHT IT HOME FOR JOE THE PLUMBER
The talking heads have spoken. The debate has been ,"scrutinized," by the,"experts", and as expected most say Barack Obama won. The fact is that all Obama, as usual, had to do was show up and thank the Debate Commission and those especially in the media who drool over Obama claim an Obama victory.
McCain was faced as with the prior two debates with a situation in the eyes of the media of needing to all but deck Obama as he stepped out on stage in order to be crowned the victor. Then they would accuse him of being to harsh on the messiah.
So setting the bias aside and the media expectations of the debate, did McCain succeed last night and will it have an affect on the rest of the campaign ?
The answer to both of those questions is yes. John McCain brought the tax and spend liberal truth about Barack Obama to all of the Joe the Plumbers in this country.
For those who may not know who Joe the Plumber is let me briefly tell you about this new celebrity on the political scene. Joe is preparing to purchase a plumbing company in Toledo, Ohio and confronted Obama at a campaign appearance about Obama's tax plan and its affect on those like Joe who own small businesses and make along with their business over Obama's tax increase thresh hold of $250,000.
Obama explained to Joe that he wasn't ,"punishing," him for his success but that he, (Obama), thought that to ,"spread the wealth around," was good for America. Joe did not take that well and was brought up several times last night in the debate as a representation of the common person who will be affected by Obama's tax wealth redistribution plan.
McCain hammered Obama on this particular subject and brought home the fact that Obama's plan was not a tax cut as advertized but a massive redistributing of wealth where those who earn will be required to pay more in order to give tax credits to those who pay nothing. And asked Obama why he would want to raise any taxes when people are hurting.
Throughout the debate McCain had Obama on his heals constantly defending his policy, ideas and associations. Even after Obama made his defense McCain managed to get another quick jab in before the moderator Bob Schieffer asked another question.
McCain backed Obama into a very tight corner on education citing the success of the voucher program in Washington DC. A program that Obama also agreed was working but stated that it was not good for the rest of the country. McCain jabbed back at Obama hanging him again for not wanting to let other school districts share in the success of the DC program.
The long awaited confrontation over Obama associations especially concerning Bill Ayers was handled well by McCain without coming across as ,"mean," or intentionally confrontational and Obama's response followed the usual talking points without revealing the details that many are demanding.
In fact these associations brought up questions concerning Obama's judgement in a focus group of undecided voters in Miami, Florida whose Dade county leans left of center.
Other focus groups of undecideds that I observed were very favorable to McCain in fact one had 23 out of 28 state by a show of hands that McCain had won their vote.
Will this debate affect the election on November 4 ? If the focus group showing 23of 28 voting for McCain because of what they saw last night and a poll following the debate by liberal CBS showing a majority of uncommitted voters trust McCain more in handling a crisis are any indication, it could very well have made a difference in the final results for the White House.

Like I said, Joe the Plumber was clearly a winner here! Yep, like you wrote in the comment section of my post, Ken, McCain ought to use him in some of his ads. It would definitely help him. :)
Pundits and polls... phhhhft! November 4th will tell all. Until then all this babble-talk by the pundits is just that... pure babble.
Good take on this debate. I didn't know that about the 23 out of 28 undecideds going for McCain. Excellent news and thanks, although I don't see how anyone could have still been undecided!
You know, its funny how many of the democrates I have talked to, have not seen or heard about Joe The Plumber, and how many have not set down and looked at the income figures Obama is talking about. Great Post.
I wrote my own analysis of the debate before i listened to any pundits or read any blogs. My opinion is wholly uninfluenced by other opinions. I call it as I see it, and I saw pretty much a tie.
Obama wins by virtue of the fact that he has more media support.

second, McCain was at a disadvantage nefore the debate started because of the drool over obama. Obama in all of the debates just had to show up and the mania surrounding him gives the guy a win.
I have debated quite a lot and in points and content Mccain beat Obama overwhelmingly.
Also in the impact in the focus group that I mentioned from Ohio shows that he had an impact of voters. Polls are skewed toward Dems and always have been. Even Reagan was down by 9 on election day against Carter and we know how that turned out.
This race is far closer than the ,"experts," would have anyone believe and election day is still a good ways off. Don't count your eggs before they hatch. Even your man Obama warned today of not getting cocky because he knows that McCain comes on strong at the end as he did in New Hampshire, and the primaries and will over the next two weeks.
Interesting that Joe Wurzelbacher (Sen. McCain didn't even get his name right....) is not a licensed plumber, and has no records of ever being trained by any professional group or having apprenticed under anyone. Further, he's chosen not to pay his taxes like the rest of us in the middle class do, and consequently has a tax lien against him. And lastly, he's a registered Republican that's never voted prior to the primary in March.
Is this _really_ the man that Sen. McCain wants to hold up as an example of the "average American"? He doesn't vote, he doesn't pay his taxes, and he's unlicensed in his profession, with no record of training? Is this the guy you want to hire to work on _your_ kitchen? Is he bonded or insured? You can read the article on the front page of The Toledo Blade, the local newspaper.
McCain The Maverick, circa 2000, is nowhere to be found. It's a shame. I once respected him greatly. And I could blame his Rovian campaign team for this despicable slide into dirty politics, but every single ad that's filled with either misleading information or out-and-out lies (just do a little fact-checking, Ken...) ends with "I'm John McCain, and I approve this message".

There you go again with your accusations of the liberal bias of corporate media. Every debate this season has seen MSM pundits call it a draw, but an overwhelming majority of viewers (undecided and otherwise) have proclaimed Obama the winner of each debate. If there is any bias at work, it's pro-McCain.
Also... when have you ever seen me predict an Obama victory in November?
"Joe the Plumber" is a liar.
Let us count the ways.
Lie 1. He's trying to buy his boss's company.
No he's NOT getting ready to buy his boss's company, and he couldn't because he only makes about $40K a year. And he has a court judgment and a lien against him for -- wait for it -- unpaid taxes.
Lie 2. The company makes enough money that if he bought another truck he would have to pay a higher tax.
No, the company reported earnings around 100K last year -- he'd have to more than double its profits to face an increased tax rate.
And oh yeah, that increased tax would only be on the profits over $250K. So if he made $280K, he'd be taxed at the current rate on the first $250K, and the somewhat higher rate on the last $30K. Poor thing.
Lie 3. He's in a position to buy a company. Not. The guy's not even a licensed electrician!
Lie 4. He gives a good you-know-what about taxes. No, he hasn't paid at least one year's back taxes, and there's a judgment against him for arrears taxes.
And a question... why is it "class warfare" to have a tax policy that relieves the tax burden on the 95% of US families who make less than $250K a year, but not "class warfare" to have what we have now -- a tax policy with huge tax breaks for the rich and ultra-rich, and under which one half of US corporations can use loopholes to avoid paying any taxes at all???
Is it only class warfare when people who are struggling get a break?
Why are people even considering voting for McCain, the man with seven (7) houses who supports tax breaks for the rich?
Gimme a break.
